Members of Natural Resources Protective Association met at Blue Heron Park Visitors Center, Annadale. The group discussed the hopeful opening of East and South Shore beaches. Also, members expressed concerns about possible “upzoning” of vacated coastal zone properties, bringing taller, wider buildings with greater density, as proposed by developers. The group also discussed a coastal zone proposal by the Army Corps of Engineers for berms, a boardwalk and seawall. An application to build new wharf and pier at the cement plant in Elm Park was discussed. The next cleanup of New Dorp Beach with Clean Ocean Action volunteers is March 23 and the Protectors of Pine Oak Woods coastal geology presentation is April 13 at the Greenbelt Nature Center.
